Summer Pinwheels

I am such a copier...let's just get that out in the open right now! Like many of you, I absolutely don't have the time to come up with completely original ideas on my own every time I sit down to create a project. When I see great ideas out there I take advantage of it - though I do always try and alter the end project in my own way.

In the last few months I've seen these great pinwheel cards out there. So...I have taken that pinwheel idea and made a few great cards using this technique. I'll show you one today and promise to post the others soon with the instructions on how to make your own. (Bonus for those of you in my stamp clubs - we're going to be making a card this month using the pinwheel!)

Last Chance-Retiring Stamps Contest Plus Watercolored Roses

Now on to our Watercolored Roses portion of the post. Here's another card I put together this afternoon using the watercoloring technique I described in yesterday's post.

      

Here's a color combination (Riding Hood Red and Tangerine Tango) I wouldn't normally put together but it really works with the colors already in the rose. It's a very simple and elegant card using Textured card stock, Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon (with it's beautiful vanilla border), and the Clear Rhinestone Brads. Plus I rounded the corners of the pieces on the card front which I don't normally do. It adds a nice soft, gentle effect to the overall card.

Watercolored Roses

Hi everyone! I was hoping for my camera during the day today for a picture during daylight but that just didn't happen. So you'll have to settle for this picture!

 

This is a beautiful watercoloring technique that's been all over the place in recent weeks. To make the watercolored rose you'll want to start by gathering your supplies: the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set, Shimmery White card stock, VersaMark Ink Pad, White Stampin' Emboss Powder, your Heat Tool, an Aquapainter, and various coordinating ink refills.

Step 1: Stamp the rose image with the VersaMark Ink onto the Shimmery White card stock. Emboss the image with the White Stampin' Emboss Powder and the Heat Tool.

Step 2: Using your AquaPainter, wet the entire rose image inside your embossed lines. You want a bit of water but not so much that you have lakes sitting there! When the entire image is still wet, dip the AquaPainter into the ink from the ink refill and then touch it to the water on your rose image. The color will disperse throughout the petal you touched. It's really a cool thing to watch! Do this with all of the colors until your image is completely colored in. (I used Tangerine Tango, Riding Hood Red, and Pink Pirouette in that order on this project).

Step 3: When it is colored how you like, set it aside and let the image dry. I let mine dry overnight, but I'd imagine an hour or so (depending upon how much water you used) would be fine. Once the image is dry you can then cut it out and use it on your project.

You certainly aren't limited to roses with this technique! Give it a try & be sure to let me know how your project turned out. Plus if you e-mail me a picture I'll post it to the blog!

Family Vacation

I had a great project that I finished today for you but just realized I can't post it because I don't have the camera today! So I'll have to post that project tomorrow. In the meantime, here's another cute project I found on the Stampin' Up! demonstrator-only website (yet another fabulous reason to become a demonstrator!).

 

This page uses one of my favorite stamp sets, Fifth Avenue Floral, along with one of my favorite sets of patterned papers, Urban Oasis. (I know - I have a lot of favorites!)

Instructions

1. Stamp flower images in VersaMark ink repeatedly on Kraft page.
2. Adhere Urban Oasis Designer Series paper (8-1/2" x 2") to page.
3. Tie Baja Breeze 1" double-stitched grosgrain ribbon in a knot and adhere to page (wrap and adhere ends to back of page).
4. Adhere large photo to page using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Cut butterfly from Urban Oasis Designer Series paper using Sizzix Big Shot die-cutting machine and Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die. Adhere butterfly to photo.
5. Punch circle from Urban Oasis Designer Series paper using 3/4" Circle punch. Fold circle in half over top of small photo and adhere. Attach Mini Library clip to photo. Adhere photo to page using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
6. Stamp “Family vacation” in Basic Gray ink on page.
7. Journal along bottom of page using Basic Gray Stampin’ Write marker.

Upsy Daisy Embossed

The project I'm sharing with you today is one that I copied from the latest issue of Stampin' Success, which is a monthly magazine that is sent to Stampin' Up! demonstrators. Just one of the awesome perks I get! (If you're interested in signing up as a demonstrator now is a great time - check out this post for details on the starter kit special that ends on May 31st!).

This card shows a great technique that Stampin' Up! has coined as Designer Embossing. Simply put - just emboss your image directly onto your Designer Series paper! We all use our designer papers in our project backgrounds and may even have ventured as far as to stamp a greeting directly onto it. This gives us yet another way to use this great product with a beautiful result.

Here are a few guidelines that Stampin' Up! gives in their article:

• Use a dark-colored Designer Series paper. If you want the white embossing to really pop, you need that contrast.
• Make sure the stamped image coordinates with the Designer Series paper or at least complements it. The danger lies in creating a pattern that is too busy, so choose your image and paper carefully.
• Choose large images to emboss. Small embossed images on a busy Designer Series paper may add a little more zing than you want!
